One of Those Days

We've had one of those days. Weeks, actually. The one year old can now open doors, the three year old now has staples in his head after a late evening trip to the ER, and yesterday was one thing after another... including an incident involving three little boys, 5 jars of cake sprinkles, and the floor of a very messy playroom.

After the tenth frustrating event in a row, and numerous time-outs spent in various places (including mommy hiding out with chocolate and an icy Dr. Pepper), I told the boys that the only toy they could play with for the rest of the afternoon was a bin of blocks. And they weren't to leave the area rug. For the rest of their lives. No, that isn't true. I'm kicking them out at 18.

Amazingly, the heavens opened up, and beams of light shone in the living room. There was peace. And harmony. The sounds of two little boys playing and creating together with simple, beautifully made wooden blocks (thank you John, Char, McKinnon, and Monet!). It only lasted about five minutes before blocks were flying at stapled heads, but it was a lovely five minutes.

LOL...I am blessed in that, so far, no trips to the ER and my guys usually don't hurl objects at each other's heads!
I loved the part about hiding out with chocolate...there are some days when that is all that keeps you sane! (At least for me) I try no to keep too much on hand..it has this nasty tendency to disappear in one sitting (no, unfortunately I cannot blame it on the kids...lol).
Hope tomorrow is a better day for you!
This is why we blog, right?

Happy Easter to you as well!

Thanks for commenting on my blog :)

Blessings,
Jenni

It's been one of those weeks for me, involving crayon on the wall and a three-hour time out. I'm SO glad it's the weekend.

It looks like you need a teacher inservice day. Whoever said "when it rains, it pours" was on the right track!

I hope your day is much more peaceful.

Oh, I know these days so well. I have four little girls and so I'm usually spared trips to the ER, but man the cat fights over Barbies are impressive. I, too, resort to chocolate and caffeine on the bathroom floor with quick prayers for sanity in between bites.

oh heidi....it only gets better from here. we've made trips to the e.r. for stitches to the head, broken arms, stitches to an area that would make every woman in america cringe (after my daughter fell off of the counter while getting down a glass that i told her not to get because, guess what, she might fall off the counter!!), non-stop throwing up (which resulted in a big old shot to the B-U-T-T), a broken nose after a foul ball flew in my son's face off of the end of his bat, and hypoglycemia. ....the list goes on. looking back at the list is a little scary. i usually lock myself in my room with a good magazine, a diet pepsi, and a bag of sour patch kids for my "mommy time out."

hmmm. I have one boy, one girl (though she most definitely can hold her own!)- but we've had no emergency trips to ER...yet. Kinda waiting for that "shoe" to drop..lol. Sorry it's been a week--I've been there many a time myself. My vice for rough days: tucking the kids in early, then watching tivo'd fave shows with popcorn, hot tamales and an icey coke! ;D
And remember- Tomorrow is a new day, with a fresh beginning!

Ahhhh...5 minutes of peace can be a truly wonderful thing...

Some weeks are harder than others, aren't they? This week was particularly trying on my patience. Fortunately, I get to go Easter dress shopping tomorrow ALL BY MYSELF! Woohoo! I'm so excited, it makes me giddy! It's definitely a break just in the knick of time.

I hope you have a wonderful, restful Easter weekend.

YIKES!!! Is that typical life with 3 little men? ; ) I thought my life with a drama princess was crazy...now I know you have your own little craziness going on. LOL! Kudos to you, mom, for finding some rays of light through the yuckies. Blessings! ; )

Oh my goodness! Is Luke okay? What happened?

Panda-mom:
YES - that is typical life with three little men. :)

I will have to remember the Dr. Pepper/chocolate hide out idea.

Thanks for all the empathy and sympathy, LOL! It is nice to hear that a few of you hide out with chocolate and caffeine, too. :)

Jenni~ This was our first ER trip for stitches/staples. Yes, I need to keep less chocolate in the house. It is doing nothing for the hips! Blogging is great therapy, though.

Simple Mom~ Sounds familiar...

Mandy~ Teacher Inservice... what a great idea!!

Heather~ Yeah, no Barbies around here. :)

Kambria~ You aren't supposed to tell me that!! I can lay awake nights worrying about what we're in for as far as accidents and sickness. It's enough to drive a mother mad!

Sarah~ Dh's out on business tonight, so I think I *will* put the kids to bed early tonight and watch chick flicks. And, yes, tomorrow is a fresh day with no mistakes...yet. :)

Jenny~ I get to go out by myself tomorrow afternoon, too! I've been know to just sit in the car in silence, LOL! Have fun shopping!

Panda-Mom~ Carole is correct. In my experience, that's normal life with 3 little boys. :) And my oldest is a bit of a drama king to top it all off. Really, though, it's a great life...

Carole~ For all the crazy stunts my boys try, our injuries have come from pretty commonplace accidents... Levi's had two fractured bones (collarbone and foot), but this is our first gash. Luke was pushed and hit his head on the corner of the door sill. It bled a lot, as head wounds do, and was a nice little gash.

Luckily Russ was home (on his way out the door to a client's) and I asked him to take Luke because it was bed time for the boys and the house was a disaster. Luke is particularly attached to his daddy, so it worked well. Russ is very sensitive but strong in situations like that. (I'm extremely tender-hearted and was not looking forward to the ordeal.)

In the end it was perfect. Russ said Luke was an angel. He got two staples. When he came home, he was incredibly cheerful and proud of his staples, his hospital bracelet, the glove balloon, and the breadsticks his daddy got for him. I think he was just thrilled at having daddy's undivided attention for a couple hours.

I was able to get both of the other boys to bed and clean up the house before they got home.

I was somewhat surprised that we lasted that long without an ER trip for stitches. I imagine it won't be the last...

Oh, and the Dr. Pepper/Chocolate time-out is great for stressed moms. Not so great on the waist-line, though. I tried a green smoothie today instead. :)

At least you haven't lost your sense of humour. The way you told the story made me LOL.

Anything is possible for the mum who has chocolate on hand. Have chocolate, will survive.

Here's hoping that over the next few days, you will have the opportunity to relax, or at least not have to resort to the chocolate!

I told the boys about Luke's staples (pre reading your answer to my question just now) and it was so funny to hear their responses. They spent several minutes imagining what might have occurred to send him to the ER. "Maybe he ran into a doorknob like this [brief demonstration from Will] and he got a cut!" or "maybe he got whacked with a big stick" etc. :)

Will has been to the ER twice and both times they gave him a popsicle and put on a movie of his choice. Mom to himself, any movie he wants to watch and a popsicle?! I can tell you for sure that we'll be going back just for that. :)

It's a good thing those boys are cute, right?!?! Sounds like you handled it all with tremendous flair. We have had a couple crazy weeks ourselves...our car got wrecked...I bought a really cute pedestal bowl only to drop and shatter it as I carried it in the house...and took my husband to the ER for 16 stitches in his forearm. It can only get better from here right? Thanks for blogging even when things are tough!

I'm back for a second time tonight. As I was changing laundry I was thinking about what a blessing your blog is. I have a secret to tell you. It's only for your readers, you, and me to know. I look forward to your blog THE MOST. More than another partly-famous person's blog, who I won't mention. But I think you know who's it is. (And I still like that blog, it's just that...well...I really, really enjoy yours....more!) Ok, comparing really isn't nice. But I really wanted you to know that you're doing a great job on the blog! And your readers (me) thank you! Have a great Easter Sunday.

E & T~ Thanks for the sympathy. :) Today was much better!

Carole~ LOL! The mental image I got from the boys demonstrating and narrating possible accidents cracked me up.

Off topic, but Luke is learning to read and every time he comes across the word 'will' which is used often in our reading book, he gets really excited and says, 'like my friend Will!' Pretty cute, huh?

Amy~ Oh, my! Sounds like you've had a tough time. I'm so sorry. Maybe it's going around like the flu... Yep. Things have to get better from here on out. Right? Right?! Have a beautiful Easter!

Caralyn~ And *you* my dear, really know how to make someone's day... or week, or month... I'm so happy that I have the chance to brighten a few days. It sure is a fun job. :) I know we'll have a wonderful Easter Sunday. Blessings to your family!
