1. Did you know that the ER doesn't stitch up tongue lacerations? Even when it is a *huge gash*. Did you know that it is very, very difficult to keep a 5 year old boy on a clear liquid diet for days? Did you know that 3 year old boys and 7 year old boys have a very hard time eating real food when their brother is eating a popsicle? Ask me how I know.

2. In less than a week, I've gotten up at 6 am *4 times* to go walking with my sister, Shannon, in the rainy darkness. I need a reward, or something. Like M&Ms.

3. At 7:30 this morning, Luke was on the kitchen counter gazing out the window at 3 deer in our yard. At 9 am, all three boys were on the kitchen counter counting 20 wild turkeys in our yard.

4. My mom was over yesterday afternoon borrowing books for my niece's history and literature studies. They have started meeting once a week to discuss and share their reading. Turns out Walt Whitman is exactly what and where they are at this next week: the Civil War and American authors. My sister, Holly, emailed me last night to tell me she loved Chasing Vermeer and ask if she could borrow Walking on Water and Walt Whitman while wondering where the W pentomino was. My sister, Shannon, and I had a long book conversation on our wet and dark morning walk today. I love my family. I love homeschooling. I love the family/homeschooling synchronicity.

5. I am permanently, forever done with changing diapers. At least until the grandkids come along....

LUCKY! On the diaper thing - not the tongue laceration thing. Yuck!

I am looking forward to being done with diapers!

You are too funny Heidi. Sorry to hear about the tongue thing...not fun! I hope he is ok though :-)

I admire you and your family for your closeness, dedication and love for each other. Your blog is always inspiring to me!

Have a great day, and kudos to you for walking each morning- I SO need to start! :-)

Actually, sometimes they do stitch a tongue, but, trust me, it is NOT a pleasant process! And, try having a 3 year old, with three stitches in her tongue, who wants to suck her thumb (sigh)! Thankfully they heal pretty quickly.

Congratulations on the diaper-free milestone! Doesn't it feel strange?!

hi there,

I visit very often! love this blog and the encouragement you are. Not to mention a little fountain of great information.

I have a personal question... I was wondering how you decided on 3 children... my husband and I are thinking three. I have two little ones and am pregnant now... we will have 3 under 3!

I understand if you don't want to answer this. I admire you and would like to hear your thoughts though.

thank you!

I just purchased Chasing Vermeer. All the books you have recommended we have absolutely loved. Did you know the Mysterious Benedict Society just came out with book #3?

Wow, no more diapers!!! My "baby" is potty trained too and a few days after I changed what would end up being my last diaper, I realized that for the first time in well over 7 (Yup, SEVEN) years I had not changed a diaper! About the same for you too.

Loved this post, Heidi! Sorry to hear about the tongue injury, though. That sounds tough to deal with.
Yay for early morning walks! And I'm with you...M&Ms sound like a good reward most of the time. :)
Congrats on no more diapers!

Elaine

PS - Did you make it to Evergreen last week?

Katie~ I'm not sure I can answer that question effectively. :) I guess that our family just 'feels right.' How vague is that?! The boys are like the 3 musketeers, I am pretty much at my max as far as energy (and being pregnant/having a newborn would put me over the edge), our house just fits us (barely... all 3 boys share a bedroom), I like the boys all being close in age so that we can all enjoy the same activities, I'm ready to go and *do* stuff (we are just getting to that point, finally), we want to be able to *afford* to do things.... Lots of little reasons that work together to be a big reason. :) Shannon's right, though... never say never. I must be asking for trouble, LOL. Really, we would love and adore another child if God made that decision for us. :)

Lisa~ Yay! Can't wait to read it!

heather~ Yep. 7 1/2 years of changing diapers without a break. Whew, it feels good to be done. We've actually been done for a little while, but it is just hitting me....

Elaine~ Believe it or not, I didn't register in time. Sigh. We are already registered for November, though. (3 of my friends didn't get in, either, so I guess they must have had a really big response!!) We went to the pumpkin patch instead (just posted the photos...)

Thanks for all the well-wishes, everyone. Luke's tongue is doing much better. He still has a big hole, but he is eating everything in sight, so it must be doing okay. :)
