The Fire Cat

Meet The Fire Cat.

I often call Luke Curious George, but he is also very much like Pickles, the Fire Cat.
Pickles has big paws and wants to do big things, but he gets into trouble when he is bored.
He isn't a good cat, he isn't a bad cat, he is a good and bad, bad and good cat. He is a mixed-up cat.
Until he becomes the fire cat and gets to do big things.
The Fire Cat is Luke's favorite book to read.

It is a fun surprise for kids to get a peek at Jenny Linsky in the pages of The Fire Cat.
Jenny, the black cat with the red scarf.

Kids can meet Jenny in the pages of Jenny and the Cat Club (also by Ether Averill) in which they get to revisit their old friend, Pickles the Fire Cat.
I find this is a handy way to get kids interested in reading a book at a higher level:
give them something (or someone) familiar to get them instantly hooked.
Both Levi and Luke love Jenny and the Cat Club.

And if kids love Jenny, the rest of the series is now back in print, as well!
Guess what is on our Christmas list?

I don't comment as often as I would like (for shame, I know) but I had to say how much I adore these books! Now I want to go out and find them for myself...I mean my niece. Yes, that's it. My niece :)

Happy Wednesday,

Thanks you for the book reviews! I can't believe I have never seen these books before, but I suspect they will be just right for my children. I recently discovered your blog, and it is just lovely--your photography is beautiful and so are your words. Thanks for the inspiration!

Ahhh, Jenny and the Cat Club. I never tire of it. But that's true of all good books, isn't it? It's interesting. The older I get, the more time I spend reading children's literature. I won't pretend it's because I have children, either. There are just so many lovely books worth visiting time and again. Speaking of which, Maggie Rose and Her Birthday Christmas is waiting in the wings. A little bird told me it's a favorite of yours. : )

Colleen~ I'm loving children's literature right now, simply because it is wonderful, feel-good reading without a 400 page whole-brain commitment. :) It sure is nice to have kids around so I don't look quite as silly with books like The Princess and the Goblin on my book stack. Ha! And most of those books get better with age... Have you read Maggie Rose before? I'm so excited one other person in the universe will have read it (other than my family and best friend (since I shoved a copy under her nose)), though it is always scary to recommend a favorite book wondering if others might not love it as much as I do. Happy reading!!
