Highs and Lows

Rachel asks: What have you really enjoyed about hsing? What do you wish you could change?

Heidi answers: There are so many aspects of homeschooling that I enjoy, it is hard to pick one. Hmmmm.

Levi has an amazing way of working stories and information into his daily life. I have no idea what I would do if he were at school. Because we are learning together, we are able to have a shared landscape that wouldn't be possible otherwise.

I love being able to create a deep well of rich and varied ideas for him to dip into and take his fill. When the ideas spill back out of him, I understand where he is coming from and am able to answer questions, participate in discussions, or simply relate to and be excited about the way his brain is processing that information.

I think sharing the learning process with my boys is solidifying our relationship and helping build a foundation that will carry us through their adolescence and into adulthood.

What do I wish I could change? I'm not sure I can answer that question fairly, simply because there isn't anything about the actual idea of homeschooling that I would change. Because of the resources and activities available, as well as the fact that the number of homeschoolers is constantly increasing, homeschooling can be whatever you want it to be. That is the beauty of it!

Two things I would love to change are my self-discipline (I would like to have more) and the general misconceptions about homeschooling.

What a wonderful blessing just to be happy and content with what you are in and doing...a blessing.
