Recommending

I always hesitate to recommend movies, even more so than books, because I know that the viewing experience is so subjective. For me, it depends on my mood, my place in life, and various other factors. Often, I can't even say why I liked or disliked a movie, and maybe I would have a different impression at a different time. Yet here I am, feeling the need to recommend three movies.

Dear Frankie is one of my all-time favorites. Martian Child surprised me. August Rush makes Russ cry and tingles go up my spine. So, there you have it. Three movies. About three young boys with challenges in their lives and adults with the gift of meeting them at their need.

I love the words you used to introduce your recommendations.

I participated in a group book review recently. It helped me to understand how some people's negative reactions to books and movies could be brought on by their own past inflected into what they see in a book or movie. So, with that in mind I won't take it to heart when people don't always like what I like.

Always love your info.

PS You gotta come see what Darcy did to my blog. :)

I absolutely love each one of those movies. I saw "Dear Frankie" at least three years ago and still think it's a keeper. I might mention however that it is a bit hard to find because it is a Scottish film and therefore considered foreign.

We loved both Martian Child and August Rush. I think we felt a connection to both movies--because of how we became parents.

As always, love your blog!

Tell Russ I cry too. You married an awesome guy, Heidi. (You rock, Russ!)

Have a great trip away. Enjoy!

I LOVE Dear Frankie. I think it holds a special place in my heart because of my work with deaf children when I was younger. Anyhow, I haven't seen the other two movies. {Yet.}
